3 distances: 26.2 mile trail marathonThe 26.2 mile course does both loops. It starts with the 17.5 mile loop described above. After that, you can pickup water & supplies at the junction aid station, find your drop bag if needed, and begin the 16 mile Indian Wells Canyon Loop. Runners or teams entered in the marathon distance have the option to down-grade to the 17.5 mile distance at the junction aid station, but still must run 1.5 mikes further to the finish line at the bottom of the canyon.
17.5 mileHead up Indian Wells canyon and climb slowly and steadily (elevation gain of ~2,300) for 9 miles towards Owen's Peak and the Pacific Crest Trail (there are a handful of steep sections but they are relatively short). The route consists primarily of well packed dirt roads and Jeep trails. The route will take you to the historic Nadeau-Magnolia gold mine. Explore the mine buildings and machinery another day, but enjoy the brief time in the pines and a generous aid station. After the mine, you get a brief downhill and the final climb to the top. Celebrate, high-five everyone at the upper aid station, take in the view, and turn left and enjoy the smooth downhill to the finish line. The downhill trail takes the north side of the canyon where depending on season’s rainfall, you may get your feet wet crossing the creek. The terrain on this loop varies wildly, but rocks are rare. If you're a burro; shoes or hoof boots are not needed.
10 mile You begin your journey at the base of Indian Wells Canyon. The first mile is easy along the Indian Wells Canyon road followed by right turn to a slow climb to the newer LA Aqueduct. Many will be reduced to a walk, but soon it levels out for 2.5 miles where you can easily speed or cruise with a beautiful view of the valley. Then complete a 2nd short climb to the highest point ~1100 feet above the start as you enter beautiful Short Canyon, filled with wildflowers - if the winter rains cooperate. Enjoy the descent and spot where the concrete covered 1914 LA Aqueduct emerges from tunnels through the mountains., You can run race or easy and downhill to the bottom of the canyon. The aid station will provide snacks and water for humans and animals. There will be no cups, so be prepared to refill your bottle or pack if needed. Burros can drink from buckets provided. After that, it is an easy downhill grade. The course turns south at the power line, where it flattens and ends with a slight easy climb to the finish. The trail consists primarily of dirt roads, excellent footing with very few rocks, so boots are not needed on burros. This 10 miler is open to walkers, joggers, and speed demons alike. There are some moderate hill climbs that will not exactly help you log a new personal best, but if you're looking for a 10 mile experience in a laid-back environment, this is for you!
Distances are approximate, as it is the terrain that really matters. All are open to burro/runner teams, or runners without burros competing in separate categories on the same course. There is a slightly staggered start with burros starting first.

The courses are challenging and rocky. Boots for donkeys are highly recommended, but not mandatory.
There are 3 distances: 3 mile intro (pack saddle not required), 6 mile short (pack saddle not required), and the Western Pack Burro Ass-ociation (WPBA) sanctioned 13 mile long course (pack saddle and traditional mining gear of gold pan, pick, & shovel required). Courses will be marked by color. 3 Mile intro course YELLOW RIBBONS, 6 mile short BLUE RIBBONS, and 13 mile long ORANGE RIBBONS. There will be water stations at the break off of the three courses. Water stations will be near the Charleston Road crossing for the 6 & 13 mile courses and at Monument Guest Ranch for 13 mile course. First aid supplies will be at each station with emergency crew on stand by.

Saturday, June 12th, 2021– 5th Annual Creede Pack Burro Race
Creede, Colorado Course Map10 miles – Course Details: The Creede Donkey Dash starts and finishes on Main Street adjacent to Basham Park. Teams consist of a burro and runner. The course covers about 10 miles through Creede’s Historic Mining District. Competitors will pass by the Creede Underground Mining Museum, up East Willow Canyon/North Creede. Several mines can be seen along this part of the race, including the remnants of the Kentucky Belle, gripping the cliffs hundreds of feet above the road. The course continues through the switchbacks to the Midwest Mine where teams have views of the Amethyst Mine, run through the Weaver Town Site, down “Black Pitch”, past the Commodore Mine to finish off the final three miles of the race with a gradual downhill that ends on a cheering Main Street!

Race Particulars: What better venue for a burro race than Victor CO, steeped in gold mining history! Sponsored by Victor's Gold Camp Ag & Mining museum, Victor Elks Lodge #367, and Newmont Goldcorp, This 6.62-mile course is very challenging with lots of elevation gain and uneven footing. But it also gives fantastic views and old mines in return. Please be certain to study the course map. While the course is well marked, there are many intersecting trails and roads. Race begins at 12:00 PM Downtown Victor. Stick around for FREE Susie Knight Live Performance, 12:30 - 1:30, Tractor-churned Ice Cream, and sidewalk sales! Watch the Nicest Ass Competition and see the teams finish right on main street. After the race, the Victor Elks Lodge will host live music, food, and bar.
Also, we are always looking for additional volunteers to help make this a successful event. Options include on-course direction assistance, and finish line timing and announcing. If you are interested in volunteering let Mike know!

Great distance for first timers! Miners Day is one of Frederick’s premier annual community events drawing thousands of people to Downtown Frederick for family-oriented fun and entertainment throughout the day. The event includes a dynamic parade, a burro race, vendors, food trucks, kids activities, contests, and live music throughout the day. Per tradition, Miners Day concludes with a spectacular fireworks display! Celebrate Miners Day with this great sport begun by some of Colorado’s 19th-century miners. This is the last leg of the Western Pack Burro Ass-ociation 2019 race season! This 10K race will begin right after the Frederick Miners Day parade (between 11 am & 11:30 am). The 10K race will start at Fifth St. and Oak St. (Downtown Frederick), head north along the trail and through the tunnel towards the Frederick Recreation Area, loop around Milavec Lake, head back south to the Frederick Gateway at Colorado Blvd. and Hwy 52 and then back north to the finish line in Centennial Park. There are some small bridges along the paved trail.

Teams can register for 3, 6, or 12 miles, beginning and ending down Main Street Superior where crowds of welcoming locals will cheer you on as you cross the finish line. 3 and 6 mile courses are packs optional with awards given to the top three finishers of each distance. 12 mile course is Western Pack Burro ASSociation compliant, with prizes going to the top three finishers with packs. All finishers will receive a finisher medal and shirt.
